Um.... I TRULY do not understand what you're saying. The vegans I know, ones from the NGS and others, truly are pleasant and smart and all-around awesome, with of course some losers along the way, which there are in any group. I take it for granted that most vegans are all- around better people than most nonvegans, because, well, they are.

Are you saying vegans these days are a sweet bunch of people and I'm this weird old school renegade angry vegan? If so, I've got to introduce you to my friend circle.

Ha. Not PB.

No, seriously. I just attended the Natural Gourmet, so you can imagine the slew of pleasant vegans I just encountered who were smart, beautiful, tolerant, and educating. This blog was just surprising to me that vegans like you still exist. It's okay though; it's entertaining, which is the point, right?

You know, there seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding here:

"And I agree with the commenter who said you give a bad rep to vegetarians."

But, you see, I don't care. I couldn't care less what you, or anyone else, thinks of vegetarians. I just want to be vegetarian in peace. I don't get this mentality that every vegan has to be some vegan ambassador. Forget it.

I just want to write about whatever I want to write about, and the people who feel what I'm talking will gravitate to me, and the ones who don't, won't. Simple.

And also, since I kinda think you are Mr. PB himself: it's really immaterial to me that he's still teaching at the NG. I didn't intend to get him fired or anything. I just think he's crap.

Not sure if you're still in hate with PB two years later, but he teaches at the Natural Gourmet (again? still?). And I agree with the commenter who said you give a bad rep to vegetarians. Now to read some recent posts.

That the writer of this article may be forgiven if she is under 25 is an understatement; not only in the article itself but the responses to responses to it show the emotional maturity, as reflected in the charged and irrational terms used to defend and justify her position, as that of someone still going through puberty, about 12 or 13 in other words.
I agree with Peter, rantings like these are what give vegetarians the stereotype of being judgemental and hyper-critical of others.
If she is going to criticize linguistics and dietary ideology, she might be smart to do a thorough investigation of the specimen under scrutiny because, as Peter pointed out, the book on "flexitarianism" is designed as a collection of adaptable recipes, and not as something that "flexitarians" should follow.
As a note, I, as a person without a specific food label, procure to eat food full of nutrients which benefit my mind and body, nutrients which can be found in a varity of plant, vegetable, and seafood matter. So what am I? A "nutrientarian"? Or dare I ask...

There is a side of me that thinks punching someone in the stomach is just not okay. That side didn't say a word, however, when I read this post! Your story made me cheer when I read that you had... and then I wished it had been hard... and on the chin... and maybe sent his eyes rolling for a different reason. :)

You're right... vegetarians who eat flesh are not vegetarians, plain and simple. I don't know why people have trouble with this. I especially do not understand it when people say, "I'm a vegetarian but I eat chicken occasionally," which then logically means they are NOT vegetarian. 'Get over the label' someone else said. Well, if you use a label, and you did, then just make sure it accurately describes what you intend to describe. Telling someone you are vegetarian when you eat meat is like a man telling someone they're heterosexual when they... well, eat meat.

Anyway, hilarious story, and thanks for sharing!
